CT LUNG SCREEN CT stands for Computed Tomography. During CT imaging an x-ray source rotates around the patient in a spiral fashion and information is recorded by a computer which reconstructs the image in various planes or sections, sometimes called "slices". The images produced are cross-sectional - much like slices in a loaf of bread. By taking a series of images, a CT scan can create a multi-dimensional view of the area being examined. CT scans can be done to view the head and body, to diagnose a wide variety of medical conditions.
CT Lung Screen is
a new test designed to screen high-risk patients for lung cancer. Clinical
research has found that the low-dose CT Scan of the Lung is six times
more accurate than chest X-rays in the detection of early lung cancer
A CT scan is a type of x-ray that uses computer technology to allow body tissue to be viewed in cross sectional slices, thus offering much greater detail than a standard x-ray.
Annual screening lung CT is appropriate for those over age 40 who have smoked at least one pack of cigarettes per day for ten years or two packs per day for five years. It may also be appropriate for others at high risk of lung cancer such as those who have had significant long-term exposure to asbestos or high levels of radon. It is not recommended for individuals who have a known cancer, acute symptoms or are not candidates for surgery.
As is the case with many health screening services, the cost of the screening lung CT is not covered by insurance, but we have priced the service at $195 in an effort to make it as affordable as possible for the average person.
No preparation is required.
When you arrive, you
will be asked to complete a short questionnaire, make payment, and sign
the agreement form. If you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate
to ask. Most CT Lung Screen procedures take 10 minutes to perform.
You may continue your normal diet and activities. The radiologist will interpret your study the same day it is done. You will receive a letter with the results from the radiologist, and we will provide a written report to your doctor. If there are suspicious findings, you will need to follow up with your doctor to discuss the results, as they pertain to your medical history, and to advise you if further testing or treatment is necessary.
Contact your doctor to get his or her order for a CT Lung Screen. To schedule a screening procedure at our outpatient imaging center, you may contact our facility at 785-234-3451. We will ask a series of questions to determine if you qualify to have this procedure done. We will ask the name of the physician that you plan to see for follow up care. Payment is required on the day you come in, prior to your exam. Location: Our imaging center
